Countersunk's converting and sculpting log

Postby countersunk81 » Thu Jul 06, 2017 5:13 pm

I thought I'd start this seeing as one of my projects is now lost due to photobucket, plus it makes sense to bundle all the sculting etc. in one place.

I shared this before, but this was a fairly major conversion of a Privateer Press Extreme Dire Troll into one of their characters, Mulg the Ancient:

He originally just had a spiny ridge running down his back, but he is meant to have massive rocky growths upon which various runes are inscribed.

Also I recently finished this Chaos spawn. I had some mutated bits left over from the Wrathmonger and Spawn kits, so thought I'd put them to use and link them together to form a spawn. Just connected two halves with a length of wire, then made out the shapes of the legs with paper clips and wrapped it all in green stuff. He's rough in places, and the back chitin is a bit wonky, but I'm not over worried as he'll mainly be for gaming. The feet I'll finish once he's pinned into the base.

Awesome work. Also nice to see a spawn these days that isn't just a jumbled mess of tentacles and spikes.

What ever happened to the sculpt you were gonna do based on that Japanese bioarmour... spidery... artwork?

Thanks! Yeah, while chaotic, random tentacles is getting a bit over done.

That sounds like me, but... I can't remember for the life of me what that was! Was it something I had started or just drawn?

*Edit: Was it this?

 It wasn't you it was Crumbreaper... in my defence both names start with C and the chaos spawn reminded me of his gribbly stuff...

:oops2:  thank you very much for the compliment, picked up a load more 40k and have been dabbling
with that and got side tracked from sculpting for a bit!

Loving these conversions  8-)

OK so a couple of from scratch bits, both 28mm, one I'm calling finished and another WIP...

Finished rogue/hired sword.

WIP warrior. Will have a sword and probably buckler.

Both are really just for practice, so I know there are glaring faults!

I've not really done much sculpting beyond some conversion lately. Did make up a Chaplain for my Grey Knights though, as there is no model for it (besides a vanilla chaplain)...

Thanks Soldado :)

So I did the conversion work on the actual mini (Hasslefree modern) here a while ago - head swap, sculpting hair, stockings, leg warmers and other details - but I'm just wrapping up her display base. Constructed from a block of wood and some foam card wrapped in plasticard. It's based around Sega's Lollipop Chainsaw, in the initial highschool area. I'm going to add a couple of books to the top of the lockers, maybe a crushed drinks and waste paper can on the base... Any other suggestions?

Yeah, that's looking super cool.

Maybe a poster on the wall between the lockers and the door - something you'd typically see in a school corridor like a "bin it" sign or something, or don't run etc.

Maybe said bin it poster could be subtly changed so instead of a piece of paper or gum being dropped its a zombie head?

That would be cool :)
The other idea I had was a 'Halloween Dance' poster or something?
And will probably try to put some stickers on the lockers.
