Boudi Time!

Postby mcfonz » Tue May 13, 2014 7:30 pm

Blackfly and I were malingering in the shed discussing various things before Artemis Black corrupted our minds with pure lead porn. We both realised we had the same model and decided to challenge ourselves to paint it.

We then thought "perhaps there are others?", so what we came up with was a paint that miniature session!

I shall explain. Hasslefree sell a model of Boudica, an iconic British tribal leader of the time of Roman ruled Britain, in the East Anglia Region. She stood up to the Roman's defeating their forces in several battles before eventually losing.

Image

The Hasslefree miniature is based upon the artwork of Matt Dixon who created the art for the Diceni wargames show, suitably held in Norwich - the heart of what would have been Iceni territory.

As it happens you can current buy the metal http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=boudi--%28metal%29~hfh068&category=miniatures~fantasy-humans, or the limited edition resin with a signed art card - http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=resin-master-%252d-limited-boudi-%26-signed-matt-dixon-card~hfh069lim&category=miniatures~%2Aresin-masters%2A and the standard resin version http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=boudi-%28green-resin%29~hfh069g&category=miniatures~fantasy-humans.

At the moment, this is not a competition, but a sort of showcase of painting. The idea is to help shake off those painting blocks and to get painting as a community.

However, a deadline is at hand. Images of your fully painted Boudi's have to be placed in this thread by Sunday 6th July 2014!

Paint on!

Edit: Artemis has just informed me that he will pick his favourite from those posted up here and award them with one Hasslefree goody bag. There is also the possibility that should one of the Boudi's be painted and photographed to a decent level, it could also be used in their webshop! Thanks Arty!

I'm very tempted, although I'm no great painter by any means. But it's a very nice figure and I like the idea of getting involved, even if to provide a clear wooden spoon for everyone to look down on and titter while you all gather in the Shed together.

Question: Does it have to match the colour scheme above? Or be even vaguely Boudica-y or can we just go wild? I ask partly because if I'm painting a mini I've just for the sake of painting it then I like to take a few chances and do something different.

And partly because I can't paint tartan for shit.

It's as much about getting the motivation to paint and share stuff as anything. As long as you enjoy it, you're doing it right. It's not a high class competition. :)

only one requirement: paint boudi, however you want. :)

As Blackfly says - this was more of a motivational 'lets get together and paint' sort of thing. Partly because the slack git is taking so long over his Rangers I thought I would challenge him to do something, and as it happens we both have Boudica's waiting for brushwork.

So it is all about participation, less about competitiveness, perhaps a bit about learning as well. As for the scheme - go wild, let your creative juices flow, paint her as the mood strikes you! The artwork is merely there to show you the inspiration behind the miniature . . . . nothing more!

Can I just post pics of the one I've already done? It would save me a lot of time.
