That dwarf sorcerer/wizard is one of the most exotic pieces I've seen. Lovely paint job too!

So about time I did a little up date on the Dwarf force I am building for A Fantastic Saga (Fantasy Saga!):
Image

As things stand that is three slayers off of a 6 point force. I am going to build another unit of warriors using really old heads, as in, the original plastic dwarf heads! And a unit of crossbows for a little bit of exotic weaponry. I then have a gyro copter kicking around somewhere that I want to try an make a little less steam and a little more mechanical but we'll see. Plus a cannon or two. But those will have to be "count as bolt throwers". I really didn't want to use black powder stuff where possible so I think just a minute sprinkling will be fine.

Thanks! It's the iconic Pathfinder shaman sculpted by Bobby Jackson. The model is very faithful to the art.

Small detour from the currently WIP Kairic Acolytes, the Ogroid Thaumaturge.

Image

I'm calling him done and giving him the name "mister negative" after painting him in dark colours and then washing/glazing him with VGC Glacier Blue.

Colour theory be damned + speed-ish painting = YAY!

Nice skeletons soldado!

YEsterday I had 1/2 hour free (yeah, right) and managed to start and make some advance on the Silver Tower familiars:
Image
If not for painting the bases, the fish critters are pretty much finished (silver layer, gray/green wash, white eyes, light purple glaze, done!). Book and bird should be quick to wrap up (even with some quick freehand on the book pages) but the moon-head should be a bit more work thanks to the jester suit.

Not much progress on the acolytes but this is where they are at the moment:

And, keeping with my "minimum effort for maximum results" Silver Tower painting project, that's it for the familiars. Cheers!

Currently working on the Death Runners and still somewhat stalled on the Kairic Acolytes (still the effin' gold trimmings).

First unit done bar the bases. I tend to leave these until last so I can make sure I have enough tufts etc to do them all similarly. The exception is the leader who was originally only intended to be a member of a dwarf adventuring party.

What copper color are you using? It's very bright.

It's game colour, I shall get the exact name of it when I go back into my man-cave later. However, I cannot take credit for it as it was upon Blackfly's advice that I went out to buy it and use it.

That's the one I have been using. I don't paint it on first though, I use a bit of old Brazen Brass (older citadel range) and then apply washes.

I have that "problem" with Vallejo metals: usually they need some "under layer" of a similar matte colour (sand for gold, brown for copper, grey for silver). Otherwise the covering sucks and needs more than 3 layers. :-(

I used to paint layers anyway - however more recently, when it comes to painting units tend to use washes a lot more.

I also have gone from black undercoats to grey. I block in the colours - base paint so to speak, and where I want more depth I tend to go with a darker colour. Then I use the Army Painter washes: Soft Tone everywhere with a colour that would be brought down a notch by it. Then Strong Tone in areas you would expect to be darker and then Dark Tone in the real deep areas.

So I start off with Citadel Leadbelcher before the washes. Then Vallejo Model Air - Gun Metal followed by highlights of Vallejo Model Air - Steel. Those metals are top notch.

I've heard stories about VMAir metals being excellent (and being applicable with a brush) by comparison with their VGC and VMC ranges. For metals I often use the Vallejo Liquid Silver, Liquid Gold and Liquid Copper (alcohol-based metal acrylics) which have very good coverage but rather fast drying times.

Today's a holiday around here (Mardi Gras/Carnival), dude. So I've managed to churn out a couple more since sunday:

Image

Guess that, after these two, there's really no avoiding finishing the Kairic Acolytes. And the Tzaangors.

Wasn't expecting to have the WQ:ST adversaries finished before end March but seems I'll have them done in a couple of weeks. Then it's a few heroes and *finally* I hope to roll some dice.

Cheers!

Awesome, they look great, will be a great feeling to have the whole box done!

I'm still trying to meet my AoS army deadline - should get these 2 finished later and that's another 200 pts...
