Community Paint-A-Long: Magic (Feb-April)

Postby blackfly » Wed Jan 20, 2016 3:42 am

It's time for some more thematic long running Paint A Longs, for your motivation and interpretation.

Our next 3-month theme will be : Magic

Officially starting in February, but as the 1st of the month approaches fast, I thought it best to get the info out early to allow for some sifting throught the lead pile and/or shopping in preparation for the event.

This one is pretty wide open to interpretation

-Magicians, wizards, magic users of all sorts, sizes, scales, genres
-Magic equipment, dancing brooms, bubbling cauldrons
-Magic The Gathering repaints :p
-Magical creatures
-Magic Mushrooms?

Who knows.

Take it in whatever direction you see fit, and lets have some fun. Entries in by April 30! Or you know. . . whenever.

Props go to wait, what? for the theme suggestion!

Now get to work!
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only yard work

I will enter one or both of these models. They came with a boxed magic supplement (1990) to my favourite rpg. It included a mini game for magic duels (which I never played - tbh the game seems a bit pointless), and the minis were intended particularly for that. Anyway I thought that these models were long lost but as I rummaged through my old rpg stuff this christmas it turned out that I had just put them in a different box.

The male wizard, who actually seems to have been designed as an elf is really good (Grenadier 1986). The lady was part of a dragon box (Grenadier 1983) and is not as great.

I'd love to paint them up (and then force someone to play the pointless mini-game with me!)

I plan on painting up this elemental (and an elementalist handler). I have almost no idea how to handle this translucent bones stuff :dodgy:

For what its worth I primed mine with matt varnish after washing with detergent. It seemed to give me a decent enough base to put washes and highlights on even though the end result isn't spectacular in my case.

Awesome theme! I have Paul Muller's witch for Heresy to paint (and a few more bits & bobs) so I may fast-track it after I'm done with my dwarf bb team... :D

EDIT: here we go!

It's an oathsworn miniature. I shall be doing a little review including that model soon so I shall be able to show you how he scales up to other models such as GW and Hasslefree.

Hi connexion. As fonzie says its by Oathsworn he's roughly 32mm to the top of his head (thats a 30mm washer he's based onto) he'll be used as the wizard in some upcoming frostgrave games.

That's the most colourful 'dark' elf I've seen, really like the tattoos.

Snake's nice too, though I imagine he has some trouble holding that staff and moving. :D

Should have a couple for this PAL, a good few months yet. Have a golem I'm working on at the moment which fits the theme, being a magical construct and all but he's also an actual mage so double the magic. Also got some winged eyes which will be summoned demon things for my orc shaman.
