Community Paint-A-Long: GIANT (ends July)

Postby blackfly » Wed May 06, 2015 6:48 am

Now that we've had Elite and Light is wrapping up this month, I thought I'd start another 3-month thematic paint along that might allow folks another avenue for motivation/participation aside from the company paint alongs.

This time around: Go Big or Go Home, with PAL:GIANT.

What do we mean? Big stuff. (for it's niche/scale).

A Mothership
An Aircraft Carrier
A Landkreuzer P. 1000
An Ogre in the Steve Jackson sense
A Knight or Titan (in the gw sense) (super heavy tank, capitol imperialis, etc)
A Tyrannosaurus Rex or other massive saurian.
Giant Panda? Flemish Giant? :)

Or . . . just a good old fashioned GIANT.

As usual, interpretation is all up to you. Participation is more important than pedantry :)

Also, we've been talking in the shed about maybe enabling forum badges for completed PALs. I've been doing some research and I'm reasonably sure I've found a mod for the forum software RP runs on that'll allow us to add that. I'm setting my own deadline to find out by the time this PAL is over if its compatible, and if so, get it implemented. If it is possible, we'll roll out a GIANT badge for anyone that completes the PAL buy 31 July.

Now, get to work! :beardy:

I've got the perfect figure, but it'll be a lot later than July before it is done.

I think I know when the game is up! Ok, ok, I will try to get this bugger finished, a long time lingerer on the peripherals of the painting desk, partly due to plucking up the courage to paint him, partly for not getting the last few items I needed to finish him off including rebuilding the sword handle. And yes, I realise that large chucks of him are more than well under way. He's also suffered a bit of damage - probably picked up during or shortly after the house move last year.

Still quite a lot of work to be done . . . . .

I like that giant, it's quite original! Which manufacturer? also, I know he's not strangling a deep one but I'd to keep thinking that! :)

It's an old Grenadier giant with his limbs carefully ripped from his body with a hacking motion and a knife. With replacement ones from the GW river Troll placcy set. This wasn't the original intention, the arms were meant for converting a slugdrool from the BFSP set but they were much too big for him. They other gubbins are from the ogre kingdoms placcy set, including the sword which I had to remove from a hand - hence the new hilt etc.

I have a badly converted version of that giant as it was missing Its arm when I bought it off a mate. IIRC it was sold as a storm giant. You've now got me wondering if I can fix the mess I made and turn it back into something serviceable.

Do you mean the outreaching arm with storm effects coming out of it? If so, I may still have mine somewhere that you can have!

I have searched for years for that very arm. You could make me very happy and prove my wife wrong about hoarding bits of miniatures from as far back as the 80s in one fell swoop! :)

Or in other words please please please!

I shall have a look right away!

Edit: Obvious places searched and no luck. The last time I remember seeing it was pre-house move so the search may be fruitless! :(

My plan* is to try and get an Otherworld giant done (or at least started) for this PAL.

Ahh, the motivation to finish the elephant in the painting queue, this might get done, possibly, maybe....unlikely though.

Well much like McFonz I have a mini that's well under way that fits the category... though it's been "well under way" for at least a good few months so I guess I could do with the motivation. It's a cyclops which is to be a bit of muscle for my orc warband.

Unlike McFonz I still can't work a camera (or maybe my camera sucks, who knows) so blurry pictures.

Nooooo! Thanks for looking anyway.

I've dropped my giant into some biostrip so I might try and get him painted up for this anyway.

My elephant is also quite far along (so not sure he qualifies for this). I need to sort out the warpaint, tatoos ,skin, toenails etc this is a picture from sometime last year when I last put some effort into him.

And standing at over 6.5 inches he's a tad bigger than my normal 15mm stuff

Despite having a holiday upcoming and the first real opportunity to paint in years, my plan is to completely cheat on this one.
Brave you all!
What a superb game this is and will become, my prediction was weak and we will be many more.
Thank you all and see you again here, in breathing life, never where popular opinion dies
