PAL: October & November: ORKTOBER!

Postby Cait Sidhe » Fri Oct 06, 2017 6:28 pm

Ok... so there's a K in there but I'm guessing whoever named the PAL has been unduly influenced by GW's spelling. Personally it's an excuse to dig out my RPE orcs and actually do something with them. Gonna try and get a twofer in with the Cavalry PAL running through October as well...

So I wanted some mounted guys for my Ral Partha orcs warband. RPE does have mounted options for the Gargantua Orcz but the mounts are huge and of the two different options both only have a single mount sculpt. Well in a bout of "it seemed like a good idea at the time" I picked up some of the Reaper Bones orcs which are sculpted by Bob Olley so fit style wise... and some cheap crappy dinos. I was thinking of doing some conversion work to make cavalry out of them.

Alternatively I also have the SLAP minis Scauwegs, they do have one of the issues the official mounts have though... they're massive.

I like the dino idea but they may be a bit of a pain to paint if soft plastic... I've tried three or four different coverings and had issues with glue, gesso, plastic spray and normal paint spray but others swear they can do it :)

Great idea and am looking forward to how they work out.

I'm also going to have a stab but need to convert a Savage Orc Shaman before I get painting. I might do a montage for this PAL. Realised that I probably should have been doing this before as well, for the RP channel!!! Been looking into overlays for vids as well and other fanciful things.

So yeah, savage orc shaman. This is the one I have:

Going to be given a new head. I also plan to nab this idea for the base:

Wish me luck!

Haven't got any orcs that need painting, so a goblin will have to suffice.

It's a PAL - so it's open to interpretation.

As it is, Tolkien appears to use the terms 'Orc' and 'goblin' to mean the same race, or different types of the same race. So I would say a Goblin is more than ok.

Some interesting stuff there, the cavalry idea and shaman conversions look ace!

I'm gonna have a go with guy, cobbled together years ago sat unpainted (I started slapping colour on before taking a pic!)

A little more progress. I feel like the model is still a little on the plain side. I'm not sure how I want to make it more exciting.

That's looking great Imp. Maybe put some brighter highlights on the pigtail things? They seem a bit monotone right now.

I'm sure everyone already saw this but might as well post the bugger here as well:

Should be done in a couple of days or so.

Time allowing I will also try to paint an orc BB fan to use as a FAME marker in next week's Eurobowl.

Base colours bish-boshed in and then given a wash all over of Army Painter Soft Tone. Strong Tone next and then back to the colours.
