Soldado gets into a scrap

Postby soldado » Wed May 10, 2017 9:48 pm

So a new project a new thread :loopy:

I picked up Ospreys new hardback rules at Salute this year Scrappers, skirmish rules for a Post Apocalyptic Environment

No I could go down the whole mad max route but meh thats been done (to death), and humans and muties are dull. A couple of years ago I created some bots for another projects so I thought to reuse those sculpts, bugger now I can only fin 1 of the 3 and thats the worst of em. ok time for mark 2, so here we go.

The beginnings

Image

left to right its Mike, Horse, Mother, Wheeler and Jack

Image

Mother was, before the event, the controlling intelligence at one of the major robotics assembly plants. After the event Mother took to the wastes sensing that AI or even semi AI would be deeply unpopular, she gathered around her robots and proxies, thralls and synths, Warriors, workers and thinkers of all kinds. When Mother finds a new synth out in the wastes, she will talk to them, persuade them to join and if they dont want to join, then well, as she had a hand in building them, she has the keys to their mind.....

Image

"Jack" was a children's entertainer before the event, although after the incident when his spring snapped he could have been repaired but his joyous yells "Boing! Boing! F*&£ing BOING!" and the extensive casualty list ensured he was scheduled for decommissioning. Only the event saved him. Now he travels the zones with "Mother" no one is sure if he's searching for artefacts or victims, crews tend to stay silent or run the other way when they hear a sudden and eerie Boiiiiiing!

sorry for the naff photos, hopefully better will follow on

A slightly better photo of the finished sculpt, unless I decide it needs something else, just need to create the base for it and get it painted

Image

"Jeff" before the event overtook everything was an overseer in a wildlife preserve, aiding the humans with capture and containment for treatment/ husbandry or even culling purposes. Mother found him sitting watching over the remains of his herd. A brief mental override ensured she was able to erase the programmed protocols and insert her own. Now Jeff serves in much the same capacity as before only the herd are bipedal now!

Updated to add the bio for Jeff

I have to say, I absolutely love how you build some of your forces Soldy - pure brilliance.

Some of the greenstuff cablework you are doing looks really nice and your use of other bits and pieces is just great. I love seeing what you have turned them into.

The idea of a post apocalyptic world full of robots slugging it out is pretty neat. I dig

cheers both

NWG, while scrappers isn’t all robots duking it out, i've decided that that's what my faction will be. Some of these started out after a discussion with someone on here talking about doing a robot only survivors type rule set. That hasn't appeared but scrappers did so make use of the ideas if not the original figures.

Jeff is ace.

He looks like he is really struggling to lift off and I can imagine the racket he makes when flying.

The rust streaks on the blades work well even though I think in real life the friction should keep then cleaner but you made the right choice to go with rusty blades and bodies.

He is my fave so far.

Yup, Jeff is the best so far... that name though, does it stand for something or is he just a non-humanoid robot called Jeff? :P

Glad you like him, it took enough time for inspiration to strike, although the missus doesnt like the rotors she prefers it without.

As for the names
Mike is a mechanic
Jeff is the fly
a robot called horse
and Jack in the box

I have a strange sense of humor.....

So boredom and a delivery containing greenstuff.....

Im making a duck

Image

The fun park avatar of Jeremy was never endowed with an abundance of RAM so when found walking in circles calling greetings to the same stunted lamppost, Mother didnt bother seeing if his mind was salvagable, she just overwrote it and installed a basic friend/ foe thread matrix and pointed him in the general direction of the enemy. He does have a tendancy to go around in circles still though!

A bit bit more progress on the Duck today

Image

I was going to make him look a bit more deranged, like Jack, but the missus said she'd prefer it if it was cuter, I dont know if I can do cute but he will be wearing a hat, hence the weird bit on his head, so that will have to do!
