[Mantic] Star Saga release

Postby mcfonz » Sun Nov 12, 2017 7:54 pm

Pre-orders are up for the game that was funded via kickstarter.

It's £59.99 rrp for all of that. But they are also releasing the various components as boxed sets here: http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/ ... ion=Cookie

I quite like some of the characters, it will be interesting to see the miniatures in their bare form when images become available.

Scenery bits are nice and a few of the minis, not fussed over the zombies.
Producing both eggs and milk, the platypus is one of nature's rare custard machines.

It looks like a really nice load of stuff. It's one of the best things I've seen from Mantic.
Does anyone know what type of plastic the minis are?

I like the scenery. The rest of the models are okay.
Pushing threads to page 2 since 2001.

So...what do you think of that model?

It says "pre-assembled plastic" so I'm going to go with the same stuff they used for The Walking Dead: All Out War.

Yes, that's the stuff, it is a hard PVC compound. My TWD minis have all required minimal clean up and the material hold the detail nicely. The only downside of the material (as far as I can see) is that you have to go with a minimum thickness for the components or you can get the kind of bending that you got with the Dungeon Saga skeletons. The TWD minis were all done in a more stocky and cartoony style to get around this.

They are using the same material for some of the sculpts in their current vanguard KS campaign. (Some minis are HIPS plastic, some PVC and some proper resin)

Oh ta, that's cool. I've seen TWD stuff and it seemed pretty good.

Looks like a blend of Space Crusade and Space Hulk with mercenaries instead of marines. I quite like that idea. Looks like you play the pre-generated special characters. I don't like that idea.

There's some nice gubbins in the scenery though.

They'll find the Xmas bucks for sci-fi skirmish boardgames hard fought over with Necromunda just hitting pre-sales too.

I quite like this. The furniture and doors are nice and the main characters look mixed enough to interest me.

I would like to know what the big blog of a creature top right in the main pic is...

I slipped up with the last Mantic dungeon delve and bought lots from the KS and never really got my head around the number of bags and figures that arrived in one heavy box but this looks more manageable to me. I’ll hunt up a few reviews on YouTube and spend a pleasant evening stagnating in front of the tele...

That's a Plague Aberration. A big chunk of a figure that you can pick up for £13.49

The game itself is a much improved version of the Dungeon Saga rules from what I hear although I've not played the game.

Went to the club last night and one of the chaps had his Star Saga box there. Miniatures look nicely detailed but due to the thickness of some of the components some of the miniatures had arrived looking a little bendy.

10 minutes with a mug of hot water and a mug of cold water seemed to be enough to sort them all out.
