The witch racing was a fun enough thing but almost rudimentary. I can't comprehend how this beat out anything....

Indeed....how exactly did the discworld racing game win "Best Sci-fi/Fantasy"....?

No offense to whoever "built" the board, but it looks like it could have been drawn on the train on the way to Salute....I hope they were suitably embarrassed to have won an award for it....

:loopy:

The witch racing was just this game with witches instead of F1 cars: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_1_(board_game)

Many years ago I created a WAcky Races Game based on this F1 game: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/635 ... tor-racing

It is way more fun. A crazy participation game for 8 players that takes less than half an hour.

Perhaps we should run it next year and win?

I seem to recall a pod-racing game one year as well. Could do a number of different things, like wacky races meets the Jetsons, all of your much loved wacky races but in sci fi versions of their vehicles?

Still haven't had time to decompress thoughts yet, but to begin with here are some of my pics of Platypii tables, now that albums are working again:

Thanks for the photos - some good looking games there.... which makes some of the judging even more strange.

I think they have changed the catogories around a bit. They now have a Trader Sponsored award. They don't seem to have much of a description but I suspect that if a company is financially behind a table it can't be up for some of the other catogories.

I think it's fair to say that a large number of the tables were of that ilk - the RP ones were probably classed as such as well.

But who knows. That said, it's not exactly a new thing is it? I seem to remember your Planet of the Apes board being far better than the one that won it that year as well. Was it 2013? http://www.salute.co.uk/salute/past-sal ... s-winners/

An interesting point here is there was some thought that our placing in the hall may have resulted in the percieved reduced intererst this year - but it seems that it is the same place that Pete and Badger Loving Fluffsters table is in exactly the same position and won most innovative.

Ha....I remember that game - "Best Scenery" ....commercial terrain, and a half painted board.... :loopy:

Bring and buy doesnt exist anymore. Nor do quebuster badges/tickets.

My reflections are that the insane early rush has died out as a result. Instead the numbers are more spread out over the day. There are still a lot of folk for doors opening but it seems a tad more relaxed.
